The First Project on my desk is a result of oberservation of library research and computer use in our library. Taking the time to evalate resources before using them. I would like to have a lesson or two available to teach the next time teachers bring their class to the library for research. From conversations with teachers and computer instructors, they don't always get the time to talk about the internet. When they do the cover the big concept, not as much on the finer details. Although there are many notes scattered about on the desk, I decided to start this blog with the following article, and checklist of things to do.
Even though this article doesn't talk about web evaluation, this would still need to be discussed with my clubs. Especially the difference between positive criticism and "snide remarks" and misunderstandings.

Things to remind the students about-- or discuss with them, when using the internet:
*Protecting your Privacy... Don't give personal information(including school or mascot), set social networking (define and give examples) to private.
*Cyberbullying..What it looks like (examples on the net?). Have students come up with their own guideline--If this were a school wide project with character education I could use some of their ideas for a library poster.
*Cheating and Plagerism--talk with students of proper and legitimate use of technology (especially using photos). Discuss citing sources. Discussion starter: What is cheating on the internet?
