21 century learning

Big Wow factor! It is amazing how fast life is changing (of course, my grandparents are saying the same thing) But this video tells it how it is.

It is time that we recognize that how we are teaching is not how our students are learning about the world around them.

What will this mean for the school library and my own role as the librarian. In a perfect world everyone would have access to a computer and the internet. In the perfect world, students would be bringing their laptops to school and doing their school work.

I'm wondering--if we allow students to use technology to do their homework, would they be more apt to do the homework. No wonder they look lost during the school day. As a teacher-librarian, I see our school as having limited access to computers, making it difficult to not only teach students how to search effectively and efficiently, but also to apply what they have learned and sharing it with others. Would I have to consider opening the library in the evening so that not only computers are avalable, but also personal assistance to students who are learning the technology as well?

Yes, in our neighborhood, students have access to computers at the public libraries, but do the public libraries also provide instruction or ideas about how to present the information that they have?

hmmmm....
